Dear Forum User,
I am wondering if anyone can tell me the quickest, easiest and most reliable software available (preferably free) in order for me to completely delete all data from my hard drive. I intend giving it away for others to use and I have a lot of sensitive data on it which I wish to ensure does not get recovered. I realise a simple format will not suffice. I have been informed that Microsoft provide a program for this called 'SDelete' but I can find nothing about it or a download link on the Microsoft site. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated. John |

Here are a few links I found:
http://www.diskwipe.org/ http://www.dban.org/ Both say they are free. here is also a web page that might help you: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows...by-step-guide/ Bobb (Who hates image verification as my sight is not good, and the audio never sounds good.) |

Punch several nails in the drive and bury it in your garden so it will rust. It's free and ensures no-one else will have access to the data.

But he wants to pass it on and destroying the drives physically means the computer is not usable without buying some new hard drives.
It is safe to use either of the 2 suggested programs.

Yes but he wants to be 100% sure the data is safe and the only sure way of doing that is to keep it yourself. Replacement drives are cheap enough.

How infuriating is it, having to type in those bot control stupid words every time I want to post. I am logged in, that should be enough.
Anyway, wiping a HDD is easily done and asll you have to do is google the request to be enlightened as to what is available as a freebie total wipe. In programs like NCIS, Magee can find info on a wiped drive, but the proper program can be used to totally erase all info by rearranging the magnetic data block to make them all blank and totally re organised, eg: a virgin disk. It can take a while to do it properly but hey, thats what you want isn't it? http://www.easyfileshredder.com/land...etedFiles.html That was just one when i googled |
