Default Missing USB Drive

Probably should have posted here before I posted in the Windows 7 forum.

Suddenly one of my USB HD's no longer lets me use any of the files on the &^%%$$.
The files show up, but I keep getting an I/O error. This just happened yesterday & the problem shows up on my Desktop, and Laptop.

Any ideas?

Quick update. I used CHKDSK in a Safe Mode dos prompt. It seems to have fixed the bad sectors, and seems to be working now. Time to copy everything to a new drive.
