On the norton removal piece "Bstards", even with the norton removal tool not all the pieces go away like symantec lic netconnect service to name but one.

With the rate drivers get released these days you will often be tied to having the latest SP's.

Lastly with acer lappys, their often a pain to set up wireless, why i'm not entirely sure as when their sorted they never tend to play up again.

I've been using NIS since about 2001/2 and I've never had any problems!

I must be one in a million (as they say).

These latest versions, since NIS 2008, have made a noticeable difference, plus the introduction of the Norton Community Forum to air problems have made a world of difference.

Recent independent tests have concluded that NIS is now one of the lightest users of resources.

Everybody to their own though. It's just like buying a car, everyone thinks they have the best and it's difficult to persuade otherwise.

I understand what you are saying Kremmen but I tend to think along the lines of if its pre-installed on most computers then Symantic must be having one hell of a problem pushing the product so another tactic is to force it upon you.

Default Quite so

I have to agree with Kremmen in that norton has been lighter than its ever been.

It amazes me that anyone discusses security programs beyond whats new any more as it always boils down to personal preference.

As for preinstalled software, its just another sales platform rather than an indication of quality.

This pre-installed nonsense is why all my new PC's come from Novatech totally bare.

Previously I've bought an OS CD/DVD to install myself but these days my MSDN licence does just fine

= I know exactly what's on my PC and I have the wherewithal to start from scratch again if it all goes 'chests' up
