If you do not want to be notified by a pop up window when Internet Explorer has finished downloading a file, you can prevent it being shown by editing the registry.

Please be careful when editing the registry, as any mistakes could cause your computer to cease working correctly.

Type in regedit into the Start Search to open up the registry editor and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

On the right-hand pane select NotifyDownloadComplete,right-click and select Modify. In the Value data: text box change the value from “yes” to “no”.

If the NotifyDownloadComplete is not there, you can create it by right-clicking in the right-hand side of the registry editor and select New > String value and enter in the following information:

Value Name: NotifyDownloadComplete
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: “yes” or “no”
