Doing the weekly shop is expensive and laborious – but everyone needs to do it. From families with many mouths to feed to students feeling the pinch, we all know how important it is to find the best bargains on the food we buy.
Prices are constantly changing, though, and deals come and go, so there’s no way of knowing which supermarket to shop with.
However, online supermarket www.mysupermarket.co.uk promises to get you the lowest prices on the items on your shopping list by comparing prices from the major supermarkets, so you can save money without any hard work. It’s free to use and within minutes of signing up you’ll be reaping the rewards on your bill. Read the guide below, and enjoy this great money- and time-saver.
Step-by-step: Save money with MySupermarket

1 Sign up
To start saving money with MySupermarket, you first need to register on the website. This is really easy, so go to www.mysupermarket.co.uk, click on the Register link at the top of the page, fill in your personal details and MySupermarket sends you an email with your registration details, in case you forget them.
2 Choose your favourite
Now you can start shopping, but where do you normally do your shopping? On the first page of MySupermarket you get the option of four supermarkets – Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s or Ocado (Waitrose). Start by choosing the supermarket you’d prefer to use; just click on it to proceed to the next step.
3 Remember your shopping
If your weekly shopping consists of the same sort of items each time, you can make things quicker and easier by creating a Favourite shopping list from one you’ve previously made with an online supermarket. Click on the Favourites gold star button and sign in to import your favourites list.
4 Don’t get blocked
If you can’t import your old shopping list, it might be because MySupermarket opens a pop-up window, and Internet Explorer blocks this. To stop it being blocked, click Tools ➜ Pop up Blocker ➜ Pop up Blocker settings and add www.mysupermarket.co.uk to Address of website to allow.
5 Fill your basket
If you haven’t got a list from a previous supermarket spree, you can go straight to the shelves and find food by clicking on the categories at the top. On the main page, MySupermarket shows you the best offers from the supermarket and tells you how long the offer stands for.
6 Get a better offer
When you spot an item you want to buy, click Add to trolley. MySupermarket tells you about cheaper alternatives that you can swap to and tells you how much you can save. Click on the pound sign next to the price and you see which alternatives there are. When you’ve added a few items to your trolley, MySupermarket shows you how much the same items would cost from one of the other supermarkets, so you can click on one of the others to make a saving. If happy, click Checkout.
7 Shop faster
When you know what you want to buy, but don’t want to hang about, MySupermarket has a Quick Shop facility which finds all the things on your list for you. Click on Quick Shop, type in what you want (press Return between each item), click on Find and choose which product you want from each item in the list.
8 Put your feet up
In less than half an hour, you can buy everything you need, find out whether your groceries are cheaper at another supermarket, and arrange to have everything delivered straight to your front door. Alternatively, you can print off the shopping list and go in-store. Who said shopping was stressful?
