I would like to respond to #10 in which the computer can help even when the screen saver is not activated. Todays computers especially one described in this article can handle these background calculations with ease. There are many more options for someone would like to configure if they so choose, but the defaults are good as is. Second thing I would like to encourage if you want an very easy way to get involved in BOINC as #10 encouraged. I recommend checking out the nonprofit GridRepublic which is working in collaboration with BOINC to make a simple point and click way to discover the many projects, choose which ones you want to help, and enable managing many different computers all with one login. Its really quick easy and I would say the best thing that volunteer computing like this has seen to make things easy. Check it out at http://www.gridrepublic.org
