Registering for Games for Windows – LIVE might seem like a chore, but pass the initial sign-up process and you’ll immediately see why it’s worthwhile.

Bringing together the millions worldwide into a service that unifies a previously fractured gaming community means that you’ll never be short of people to compete against, and always be able to find your friends online.

To make the process easier, here’s five steps to make the system as simple as cutting a loaf of bread in half.

1. Name and Game

The first step in signing up for a Games for Windows – LIVE account is creating a local gamer profile, which you have to do to play any compatible game online or offline.

2. Form and Function

Clicking this will open up an Internet Explorer window with an online form to fill in. Here you get to choose important details, such as your unique gamer tag and picture.

3. Your ID

If you already have a Windows Live ID, such as a Hotmail, account then you can simply enter it during this process. Otherwise, follow the instructions to complete the form.

4. Clocking In

Once you have your LIVE Silver or Gold account, return to your game and sign in with your profile. You can set your PC to remember your username, password, or even to sign in automatically.

5. Fully Integrated

You’ll notice that the game has recognised the new Games for Windows – LIVE profile and this will be reflected in every compatible game that you play from now on.
