1 Train your brain

Brain training is all the rage at the moment, so whip your brain cells into shape with the Brain College mini games for your Windows Mobile. There are 20 different games, four types of test and it even gives you progress reports to show how well you’re doing. Try it at http://snipurl.com/hm8d4.

2 Reduce your luggage

There’s nothing quite like reading a good book while out in the sun on holiday. Books can take up a lot of room in your suitcase, though, so save space by choosing eBooks to read on your Windows Mobile phone, using either Microsoft Reader or Adobe Acrobat software. Check out www.microsoft.com/reader to see a great list of eBooks, from novels to autobiographies.

3 Seek and locate

If you’re out and about and want to find the details of a local business, or a map of the area, Live Search for Windows Mobile will prove invaluable. To install it, navigate to http://wls.live.com through your phone’s browser. Click the link to download and install the software. If your phone has GPS (Global Positioning System) functionality, Live Search for Windows can tell where you are. By choosing ‘Search near me’ you can find local restaurants, hotels and more.

4 Carry fewer devices

Thanks to Windows Media Player Mobile, your phone can also be a powerful portable media player, so you won’t need to carry a separate MP3 player. Using its Bluetooth capabilities, you can connect to headsets and speakers for great sound quality and freedom of movement.

5 Remote control PC

If you fancy browsing the media on your PC without having to leave the sofa, try Windows Mobile 6 Remote Desktop. This allows your Windows Mobile to control your PC, and even enables you to stream music and video from your PC to your phone. Download for free from http://snipurl.com/hsf9m.

6 Keep it personal

Windows Mobile has an attractive user interface, but it’s nice to tweak how the menus are displayed to suit your needs and tastes. If you want your Windows Mobile to behave like a PC version of Windows, try PocketWin, from http://fp8.spaiz.net. This program gives you a Windows desktop for launching all your phone’s programs.

7 Share your photos

Digital cameras are now a pretty standard feature on mobile phones, and smartphones are no exception. Rather than having all your snaps languishing on your phone’s memory card, use Windows Mobile to upload your pictures to your Windows Live Spaces profi le so that all your friends and family can see them. You need Windows Live for Windows Mobile, available for free at www.windowsliveformobile.com.
