Make Windows Vista faster than ever before

New update allows super sized SD cards to be used for ReadyBoost
By James Stables on 19 June 2007

According to reports from the Windows Vista Blog, an update is due to be released this week which is designed to make Windows Vista compatible with larger SD memory cards.

This will enable users to use the new 8GB SD cards for ReadyBoost, the Windows Vista feature which speeds up system processes by offloading resources onto flash memory.

Giant SD Cards can now be used to provide double the boost previously seen in Windows Vista

Previously, users wanting to use ReadyBoost had been limited to 4GB devices, but this latest update allows 8GB SD cards to be used in the same way. This means users can double their ReadyBoost performance, and see major improvements in their Windows Vista experience.

This update is just one of a host of new updates for Windows Vista, and this is set to be the busiest week since the new OS launched. However, despite the ripple of criticisms of Windows Vista amongst the tech community, updates for Windows XP still significantly outnumber its baby brother.

The latest additions will be available on Friday 22 June and can be downloaded from Windows Update, which is found in the Control Panel.

Happy boosting

My computer has 2 gigs of memory already. Would I be able to benefit from using readyboost?

I think the result would be nominal for you, but it all depends on what you are doing. The big bonus will be for people running Windows Vista on machines with only 512MB or 1GB.

I don't think ReadyBoost makes the slightest bit of difference anyway! It's just a Microsoft ploy to get us to spend even more money on Vista, which in itself, is expensive enough without having to buy all the other hidden extra's to get it up and running and looking nice! And just when is this so called 8Gb readyBoost supposed to be operational? I have tried it and it will only allow me to use 4Gb so it's not available yet obviously?
