incompatibility between Nero 7 and Vista Home Premium

flaws in Vista will stop nero from running correctly.
By kathsykes1959 on 27 June 2007

Hi,

Ever thinking of buying Windows Vista - THINK AGAIN BEFORE YOU DO.

There are definitely major issues with it.  Firstly all pc's or laptops with a dvd burner or cd burner, Nero 7 is not compatible and will not run right.  Not only that, but it will now allow useage of burning dvd's 8.5gb.  When you load the program and come to doing some burning - it stops responding, and freezes.

There is no solution within vista to rectify the problem, and although Nero have downloadable patches that are for vista, it still will now work with vista home premium.

I have noticed that there are issues with it, where you set yourself as administrator, give yourself full access, but it still states that you need to ask authorisation from the administrator to continue.  That should not happen.

There are no service packs been produced for Vista yet, and most techie guys I know will not touch it with a ten foot bargepole until there is one that they can work through.

These are only a few issues, there are no solutions to these either, and microsoft have not set up a site that gives feedback and solutions to problems that windows vista users have.  If you leave them a message they never reply.

Sometimes it makes me wonder if I would have been better buying an apple mac instead.  At least there are no major problems with their software.

If you have similar problems to mine then it will be nice to hear from you.

Thanks

Kath

Hi Kath,
I have been using nero 7 w/Vista for a couple of months with no problems. It is actually made Vista ready as Nero says on its website. I have burned Dual sided 8.5 gbs / DVDs/CD-Rs. I have not had a single lockup with nero or vista (program or two have stoped responding) but thats about it. After installing i have never been asked to authorize to continue. I have old and new Games / software runing great. I AM GLAD i SWITCHED. most people dont even use Vista but still critique based on opinions they simply read. Users should try it for themselves. I hope you go back and reinstall because it is very good indeed.

Take Care

Kath,

I only had problems with Nero before I downloaded the update from their website, now everything works fine including DL and Lightscribe.

I'm using Ultimate not Home Premium, but that shouldn't make any difference.

Nero 7 works ok with Vista . Just updated to the HD ready version.

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling nero? I know that only the most recent version of the program is designed to run on vista also.

I have both Nero Ultra 7 and Vista both are working quite well. I haven't had any of the problems you listed. I had Vista and XP in a dual boot for 4 months, last week I removed XP.

Hi Kath I have had Home Premium since Feb 1st and Nero 7 prior to this. i updated Nero to the fully reloaded version(Vista Ready) and have not had 1 issue, it is actually better than old nero on XP! Sounds like you may have a problem with either a graphics card/RAM/ processor speed?? i have X1950Pro 512Mb, 2Gb Corsair pc3500 DDRPRO and a AMD 3400+ 2.4Ghz. maybe if u upgrade one of these it may run better? socketchops

What a load of rubbish. Get a life. Get a new PC. Get some half decent software and it will run on Vista..

Hello Kath, Yes, I am the only one it seems who has had similar problems running Nero 7. I too did all that I could but it just would not work. When I had the same problem with Roxio 9 I knew it wasn't the software, and now I have to use the basic Ashampoo burning studio. However in your case, if it is now burning 8.5 disks and now working with Home Premium as you state, then what is the problem? I do disagree with this statement: "Firstly all pc's or laptops with a dvd burner or cd burner, Nero 7 is not compatible and will not run right." Because it does not work on your rig why does it mean it will not work on anyone else's? Basically you either have a compatible Southbridge chip or you don't. That seems to be the issue.

In addition, burning an iso file using vista is problematic. I dual boot back to my XP system when I am burning cd's or DVD's and especially if I have to burn an .iso file

I have Nero 7 but it was so flaky on XP I am not bothering to load it on Vista. I reported the problems to Nero but got zero help

thats odd windows checked for solutions to problems online and it seems so windows update says that the compatability issues with nero have been solvedhas anyone else had this with vista update

personally i have no probs with nero 7 it runs, its the older stuff i struggle with, anything after 2006, seems to be a problem.

i have a bundled version of Nero 7 and have used DVD RW and Burnt .iso cd with no problems.

I only ever tried 4.7 gig DVDs so I can't say anything about the problem you are having with the freezing. Call the Nero people for advice, maybe there is a burn size limit. Are you using a registered copy? If not maybe there is a feature inhibitor until you pay the lofty price for a license.

As for the other constant asking for permission, that is probably a Vista issue. Go into UAC (User accounts control) and turn it off. If you are the only user of the PC, or if others need not log in, and you doubt the machine is going to get stolen, it should be no problem for you in terms of security. Yes this sucks, but that is Microsoft for you.

I don't know that my problem is Vista's but I cannot burn DVD's in Nero Vision 4. I can go through the whole set up process but after the menus and all are created, some 3 hours later, Nero crashes (according to Vista) and I'm toast. The disc is never recorded on so I'm not stacking coasters. If I want to burn the same video to CD using a similar setup, no problem. There are no updates from Nero at this time. Any ideas? Oh, new machine 4400 dual core, 2GB ram...hefty enough.

When i try to use Nero 7 in vista it seems to remove the driver for the DVD drive so it's not accessible via my computer and I have to reboot to use the DVD drive again.

i'm having the same problem. when i go to burn a disc it converts the film then starts to burn and at the end of the burning process an error message appears, saying burning process failed. Also everytime i load Nero a message appears saying vista is not compatible. Anyone any idea's? Tried everything i know, which isn't much!!

Well said Kath - I.M.H.O., Microsoft got XP right, whereas VISTA is GARBAGE !
I'm also unable to burn with Nero - furthermore VISTA doesn't detect my Netopia Router (so I can't get online), it won't detect my Lexmark Printer either etc. etc. etc.
Windows 2000 worked perfectly well for all my (home) requirement - my new VISTA laptop is an overpriced, useless decoration.
Microsoft 'Customer Focus'???
My ass !

Dave.
