Text message people from your Windows Sidebar!

Got a Nokia mobile phone? Then you can send or receive texts via your Windows Sidebar with this gadget
By NickO on 13 March 2008

The Nokia Text Messenger is a Sidebar gadget that allows you to receive texts and read them on your PC’s screen.

You can also compose messages from your PC and send them; choosing your contact by clicking the drop-down TO button. The advantage of this is that you can write a proper message quickly without the txt spk associated with normal text messages.

You can even drag the gadget out to the main desktop area to make it bigger and easier to read.

And because you’re sending texts through your PC, rather than fiddling with your phone, it makes you look like you’re being really productive at work.

To use the Nokia Text Messenger, you need to have Nokia PC Suite 6.85 or later installed on your Windows Vista PC, and your phone plugged in via USB cable or Bluetooth (Bluetooth having the advantage of letting you stow your phone in your bag or pocket, out of sight).

Something important I forgot to add to this blog - you need to have your phone connected to your PC, which you can do either by USB cable or Bluetooth.
